Ambiance

Our farmhouse was originally built in 1924. I had aspirations of installing a gas fireplace log kit with remote control. Unfortunately, the cost to retrofit the fireplace for this was prohibitive.  I also love candles, but do worry about forgetting to blow them out. The Napa Valley Fires in 2017 reinforced this for me.

Instead, I purchased 3 glass hurricane lanterns, 3 flameless pillar candles and 3 glimmer strings from Pier One.  What I love about their flameless products is that the same remote works with almost all of their candles and glimmer strings.

I put the flameless candles in the lanterns and arranged the glimmer strings so they resembled fireflies. These three lanterns fit perfectly inside the fireplace and create a glow just as a fire would. With one click of the remote, I have a glimmering fireplace.

I like to incorporate Pier One’s glimmer strings in my floral arrangements too. They give the flowers another layer of depth.

Trick

Place glimmer strings in opaque receptacles such as mercury glass boxes or vases to create an elegant glow to accent a bathroom or bedroom. This also doubles as a night light.
